About The Area

Heights Castle is located near to the charming and historic market town of Appleby-in-Westmorland, nestled in the picturesque Eden Valley.

Situated on the River Eden and home to a well-preserved Norman castle, Appleby is the former County town of Westmorland, and is known across the world for its famous Horse Fair which takes place each June, when a large number of the gypsy and traveller community gather from across the country - and further afield - in order to trade and race horses.

A visit to Appleby provides you with the opportunity to play golf, go swimming, fishing or walking - the town is located close to the routes of both the Pennine Way and the Coast To Coast Walk - or you could take a trip on the famous Settle to Carlisle railway which runs through the town, and regularly features steam trains. The line passes within one mile of Heights Castle itself.

Appleby is a favourite destination for many visitors who return here each year. More details can be found on the Visit Cumbria website, or on Wikipedia.

We are around half an hours' drive from both the Yorkshire Dales, and the Lake District - one of the most beautiful parts of the British Isles. Here you can enjoy a vast array of outdoor activities such as walking, cycling and water sports - or of course just take in the breathtaking Lake District scenery that has to be seen to be believed.

Our unique location means you can easily visit these amazing National Parks during the day, yet return in the evening to your holiday accommodation in the tranquility of the Eden Valley, away from the crowds, noise and traffic.
